MMA Middleweight Champ Silva makes entertainment of sport

Hello Everybody. This is Standing Bear Thunder Heart, and last night, I was out at a sports bar and I saw UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships) 112: Invincible, and it was a great event overall, with UFC have a new Lightweight champion beating BJ Penn and Matt Hughes victory over another Gracie member, Renzo Gracie. Anderson Silva successfully defended his UFC Middleweight championship beating Demain Maia, dispite his unorthodox antics in the ring in all five rounds of the fight, the fight judges giving Silva an Unanimous Decision victory. Yet, the UFC fans, and UFC's co-owner and president, Dana White expressed anger towards Silva that he refused to give Silva the belt, instead White had Silva's manager give him to wrap the belt around Silva's waist, and yes, Dana admitted to that during his post-fight press conference. Regarding Anderson Silva's antics, I personally think the antics were humorous. Oh boo-hoohoohoo. Dana White and the rest of this society need to lighten up. Anderson Silva went inside Maia's head with his antics and still dominated the fight, even broke his nose, so what's the difference anyway. Silva could have finished the fight anytime he wanted, but Maia did disrespect him months ago and verbally said that he could break Silva's arm, but yet, nobody said anything about that. Brock Lesnar was attacked by Dana White and UFC fans for his post fight comments, but his opponent he defeated Frank Mir, was bad mouthing Lesnar mocking his pro-wrestling part of his past, and even made ridiculous skits of him being a real figher who beat up a fake wrestler on YouTube, and yet not one word was said toward Mir. Come on now, enough is enough. The only reason why nobody is quick to attack, let's just say, Tito Ortiz, is because Tito stood up to Dana White and nearly had a boxing match with him. If the UFC is going the thrive further than where it is already is, then fairness must be for everybody, and not just a selected few fighters that people want to target. For example, Frank Mir disrepected Brock Lesnar weeks, even months before their second fight, then when UFC 100 came along, Lesnar successfully defended his UFC Heavyweight title and at the same time, made Mir pay for his stupidy through physical brutality and verbal bashing, then everybody labeled him a "bad guy", or "an embarrassment to the sport." Good for Silva for speaking his mind and not apologizing for his actions, I wouldn't either. What's wrong with a little clowning around during the fight, it was humorous and it was entertaining. I'm sorry, but too many people have sticks up their you know what and need to realize that their are bigger and worst things in the world to get angry at than Silva's funny antics. Anderson Silva is still the best pound for pound fighter in the world, and now that he made people angry, now his status of being the "best pound for pound fighter in the world," will no longer be acknowledged. That right there is such hippocracy and obviously if people start punishing him because of what he did, then the UFC, its owners, and fans don't deserve to have a figher as gifted as Anderson Silva, period. He is better off going to many other Mix Martial Arts organizations where many of their owners would be more than happy to have him on board. If the UFC, or the sport of MMA will ever thrive beyond this point, it needs to let the fighters display more of their personalities in the ring, outside the ring, and while in their interviews, whether it offends people or not. That's how boxing thrived for many decades, by not only have quality fights, but by also they showed their personalities through showmanship and sometimes even talking trash. Mohammad Ali was a great example of what I am talking about. He talked trash, he bragged in interviews, he mocked his opponents, and he got inside his opponents' heads and not only is he the greatest fighter that ever live, he is still considered one of the best champions of all time. Yet nobody is hating on him now. I am keeping things in perspective. This is Rainbow Heart Freedom Eagle now. If you want robots to fight and not any personality to shine through, then create a UFC specifically for that. But, if you want your fight to thrive with hints to flares of personality and entertainment, ie, to flow with Spirit, then create a different MMA organization when and where personality is allowed and can thrive. Not all, but most successful people, whether they be entrepreneurs, celebrities, athletes, entertainers have edge, have a trademark, and are memorable, not flat, talented, robots. There you have it from Rainbow Heart Freedom Eagle. Now, I, Standing Bear have one more thing to say before I finished my point. I love the Mix Martial Arts, both as an effective fighting art and as a sport, and the sport of MMA and the organization of UFC is still growing, but it is the MMA fans and the rest of this society that needs to lighted up, get over it, stop crying over spilled milk, and GROW UP.

Marianne Williamson's Words of Wisdom and Empowerment

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God (I like to say LIGHT) that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

What White People Fear?

No, Bear and Rainbow didn't write this.

But considering that the race-card has been used an awful lot int he past couple of weeks - not to mention the last couple of years - it seems this is an article that needs to be widely distributed.

Why are the Tea Party even 99.5% White? Why can FOX get away with insulting Obama to his face? Why isn't the so-called liberal media able to confront the racist lies spewed by the Conservative leaders in the USA?

What White People Fear
By Robert Jensen, YES! Magazine
Posted on March 19, 2010, Printed on March 19, 2010
http://www.alternet.org/story/146040/

In the struggle for racial justice, it’s time to pay more attention to the fears of white people.

In a white-dominated world, that may seem counterintuitive. In the racial arena, what do we white people have to be afraid of?

There are lots of things to fear in this world, of course; race is not the only aspect of life in which people face injustice and inequality. A majority of people of all colors (including working-class and poor whites) struggles economically in a predatory corporate capitalist system, and all women, regardless of race, cope with gender discrimination and the threat of sexual violence in a male-dominated world.

But what fears could white people have as white people?

Understanding the fears behind the racial politics of both conservative and liberal whites can help guide strategy for changing a society in which wealth and well-being are still tied to race. And make no mistake, there is still a racialized gap between white and non-white America on measures of wealth and well-being—income, home ownership, graduation rates, access to health care, infant mortality, etc. In fact, the gap between white and black America on some of these measures is greater today than in the immediate aftermath of the major legislative achievements of the civil rights movement, and on some measures the rate of improvement is so glacial that it will be decades, if not centuries, before we reach equality. The legislative achievements that ended legal apartheid in America were a great victory, but the economic apartheid that remains is a reminder of our failures.

Put bluntly: The United States abolished a formal apartheid system but remains a white-supremacist society. After more than a decade of writing and speaking about these issues, which has sparked lots of feedback from all political angles, here’s what I have concluded about white folks and our fears.

Aren’t We Special?

For conservative white people, the dominant fear is of someday living without the privilege that comes with whiteness. Polite conservatives defend the primacy of “Western civilization.” More reactionary whites are openly racist about the threat that non-white peoples pose to “our way of life.” Both versions defend the existing distribution of wealth and power, even though many of the working-class and poor whites who endorse such views have access to precious little wealth or power. Race is used by white elites today, just as it was in the nation’s formative years, to drive a wedge between people who would otherwise come together to challenge those elites. Divide-and-conquer strategies, it seems, never go out of style.

Liberals are quick to denounce both the thinly veiled and the openly reactionary conservative racism. But what of the fears of liberals? White liberals might reject the very idea that they are afraid, citing their support for diversity and multiculturalism. But my experience suggests that while white liberals reject assertions of white supremacy, many fear the loss of white centrality. They are willing to renounce the idea that white people are superior, as long as they are allowed to live comfortably in a world where white is the norm.

In short, both the conservative and liberal positions are based on the same underlying assertion: “I’m white, and I’m special.” Conservatives are more likely to say it openly, while liberals tend to offer platitudes about racial justice while avoiding the risks required to make good on anti-racist principles.

What remains obscured is the distinctly uncivilized nature that Europeans and European Americans exhibited during their barbarous conquest of much of the world. The inherently fragile sense of white self-importance that emerges from that history is at the core of white fears—at some level, we all know that the truth of the depravity of white supremacy belies claims of white superiority.

In the institutions that adopt the liberal view, diversity is just fine (as long as whites remain in control) and multiculturalism can flourish (as long as white norms remain dominant). Institutions defined by the values and practices rooted in white Europe can open up to non-white people, as long as we white people remain comfortable. In such a white-defined liberal world, “people of color”—abstracted into a single group, erasing the particularity of people—are welcome, even sought after, to prove that we have transcended white supremacy.

Getting Uncomfortable

This analysis of the dynamics of mixed-race settings is hardly original. Non-white people have long recognized that white liberals are happy to engage with folks who aren’t white as long as their white-centric worldview isn’t threatened, and that white groups are happy to have non-white members as long as the power dynamics don’t change.

I observe all this not from some arrogant high ground, but as someone stuck in the same dynamic, struggling to get out. I know that for all my writing and political work on racial justice, I still feel most comfortable in settings where my understanding of the world defines the interaction, no matter the racial composition of the group. Rather than pretend otherwise, I start with that reality and search for ways to move forward.

I have a choice: I can rest comfortably in the privileges that come with being white, or I can struggle to be fully human.

A first step for me has been to question the value of the seemingly endless “race dialogues” that are popular in white liberal groups. In the pseudo-?therapeutic setting of such dialogues, with more talk about personal healing than about political change, white people are guaranteed that we won’t be forced out of a white-defined world. White-dominated institutions—corporations, nonprofits, universities, government agencies—are happy to sponsor such dialogues, diversity trainings, and multicultural events, precisely because they don’t threaten the fundamental distribution of wealth and power.

I have been involved in many of those events myself, as a facilitator or a participant, and I have learned from them (typically as much from my failures as successes). The most important lesson I take away is that race dialogues are not enough. As long as we stay confined in a safe world that doesn’t challenge power, we guarantee failure—if our goal really is to change the distribution of that power.

There’s no easy recipe for this kind of challenge, but we move in the right direction when we seek out places where we don’t feel comfortable, looking for relationships in which we can help change the dynamic. For me, that means putting myself in situations where I have to face my fear of being seen—or, more accurately, being seen-through—by non-white people. What if I step into those uncomfortable spaces and non-white people see the ways in which I hang onto some sense of my own supremacy/centrality? What if they see the ways in which I haven’t shaken off my racist cultural training?

A desire to confront that fear has led me, over the past year, to organizing efforts with the Workers Defense Project. It’s a local group that advocates for workplace justice for immigrant workers, addressing problems such as wage theft within a larger social justice framework.

This project has forced me to cross lines around race and ethnicity, class, language, and age. The members and staff are predominantly Latina/Latino and working class. They speak Spanish and/or English, while I’m monolingual in English, and the leaders of the group include a number of people who are at least two decades younger than me.

The collaboration between WDP and the Third Coast Activist Resource Center (a predominantly white group to which I belong) to buy and renovate a building for a progressive community center has gone forward with explicit conversations about all these differences and how they affect decision-making. The trust necessary to move forward has been built slowly over time, and I’m aware that the WDP staff and members are watching for signs that we are serious about establishing a truly egalitarian relationship.

As tricky as this Latina/Latino-white collaboration can be, we also recognize that a successful community center with progressive politics cannot leave out African Americans, the third largest racial group in Austin. That means not just casting around for some black people to add to the mix, but engaging in serious discussions with people from that part of the community to find out what kinds of collaborations are needed and possible. Austin is a white-dominated city, but that’s no guarantee that black and Latina/Latino groups will automatically come together; such alliances have to be built as carefully as any other. For us white folks in the mix, our contribution is to use the resources we have to aid in that process—not trying to control it, but also not pretending to be detached.

While there is a lot of dialogue necessary in this work, the dialogue is focused on a common goal: to provide office space for organizers, rehearsal space for artists, meeting space for the community, and a place for people to get to know each other. That common goal doesn’t mean we will naturally, or easily, put aside differences, but it means we all have a tangible stake in our collective success.

My interest in this project flows from moral and political principles—a belief in the dignity of all and the struggle to eliminate hierarchy in all forms. But I would be naïve or dishonest if I pretended that was my only, or even my most powerful, motive. In the end, I have committed to this project out of selfishness—I would like to claim my full humanity before I check out of this world. To do that, I have to move beyond the framework of conservative versus liberal and adopt a truly radical politics.

I have a choice: I can be white—that is, I can refuse to challenge white supremacy or centrality—or I can be a human being. I can rest comfortably in the privileges that come with being white, or I can struggle to be fully human. But I can’t do both. Though the work is difficult, the choice for those of us who are white should be easy.

To Judge or not to Judge?

title: To Judge or not to Judge
by: Rainbow Heart Freedom Eagle
posted on: January 10, 2010 Sunday
posted at: www.REHABinc.blogspot.com
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We all march to the beat of our drum, you don’t say? Well, I see a lot of people fighting and or hating on each other. People judge each other everyday, people who hate one another, people who love each other, people who admire celebrities on television, people who work together, people who are family. It doesn’t matter how you feel about each other, we all are human and we all judge. The difference is, “Are you someone who allows another being to be, or do you force your beliefs and judgments on the other person / being?”

Sure there is a right time to do everything, from celebrating, to mourning, to apologizing, to forgiving, to accepting, to changing, to receiving, to giving, to getting outwardly getting busy, or to inwardly still. You can tell someone they need to apologize immediately after doing a bad deed. That same person may not agree, or may decide to apologize after 40 decades to holding on to that grudge. Yes, better late than never, if only to be forgiven and set free from the truth and burden for 1 second before death, so I’ve seen in the movies. Who are we to judge?

Unconsciously, when a lot of people talk, they may be projecting if they are not clear with themselves and the separate distinction of their personal issues from the issues of the person they are talking to. They are telling another person something that they feel they actually need to do with their own life, more-so than it actually being applicable to the person they are talking to. Sometimes they believe they are preaching to someone, but they are working out their own issues by placing the judgment on the other person they perceive has the problem. Whether it is true or not, when the projecting person does this he or she is usually unconscious of this.

We all heal ourselves by interacting with other people and ideas. We are annoyed by people who are late, maybe because we ourselves are late, take a look at it. Ask yourself, why do you hate this person or group of people? Is it because you yourself are guilty of the very same thing you are blaming or judging him/them for? Do you hate victims because you act like one yourself? Do you hate gold-diggers because you are one yourself?

Do you love underdogs because you feel can relate and are an underdog yourself? Why do you love certain martyrs, is it because you aspire to be one yourself but you are not there yet? Or is it because you already are one? Same for confident people, do you lack confidence so you’re attracted to confident people? Or do you admire confident people because you already are one and it takes one to know one?

Ask why you have a like or dislike for certain people. Be honest with yourself.

Kanye West said for himself that after his mother passed away he just kept on working and focusing on his successes so that he did not allow himself to mourn for a year or so after her death. Is that right? Is he guilty of something?

According to whose definition must we smile when we do not really feel like smiling on the inside? The “savage” indigenous people do not have the same social stigmas as the advanced “civilized” cultures do when it comes to a lot of things, such as saying what you mean, instead of beating around the bush. The indigenous will say, “You’re fat,” while the civilized will say, “You’re looking healthy.”

Who is right, what is right? Do we need to be right? Who needs to be right? Whose rules say so, and why? What if my rules are different from your rules? What if I am talking to a person who does not play by rules? Do we argue based on my God’s rules, or your God’s rules? What if you’re talking to someone with more than one god, or someone without God/gods, then what do you do?

Who are we to judge, and where do we get these “rules?” Should we feel shameful when we succeed at something because it is cocky to brag? Everyone has different personalities, cultures, upbringings, understandings due to the experiences one has had or not had.

People who need to be right are the most miserable people. In letting go of imposing our “right ways” on others, we liberate ourselves and them to learn at their own time, instead of killing the natural flow.

Is person A’s experience less valid because I cannot understand them? Is person B’s experience less valid because I do not agree with her? What if you know what you know because you know through your own experiences? Does that make your experiences invalid because other people cannot relate?

People criticize a lot. I’m all for solution-oriented, problem-solving, constructive criticism, truths. But if the intention to think, say, or write is out of fear, hatred, and separation, that is destructive and wasteful.

Nature does not judge, it just flows to protect the balance. Naturally every cell, every human, every galaxy is striving for balance.

Let’s stop judging other people and ideas and start focusing on how we can solve our problems of personal, institutional, global, and universal imbalances together.

Before we can do this, we need to put our judgments aside, even for an hour, just to get the job done. Then after the job is done, if you wish you can wear your “judgment hats” again, but I doubt you’ll want that burden on your heads after you’ve felt how liberating it is to be judgment free of yourself and others.

Again, intentions are more important than actions. I’ve stated this is a previous blog titled, “Facts versus Intentions,” posted on September 25, 2009 on www.REHABinc.blogspot.com.

Everyone marches to the beat of their own drum. Even if one person trashes the land, the one person cares for it, in some ironic way, we are all at the right place, right time, doing the best we know at that moment. You may see a selfish, careless person, but did you ask for the whole story of the person who decided to trash the land?

If you perceive someone is acting fake, ask why? If you perceive someone is a puppet, ask why? If you perceive someone is pretending to be the puppet, ask why? If you know someone is smart but acts irresponsible, ask why? Intentions are more important than the actions. Intentions, intentions, intentions! Ask why, why, why! If you don’t get it, you still have infinity lifetimes to get it.

We all have the same desires, which eventually lead to balance, whether it be balancing our planet, or even balancing ourselves. People can do it in parasitic ways, or in contributing ways. We are all different and cannot change each other, only can we change ourselves.

Let’s be judge-free of other people, they are in that state of mind or being because there is still certain lessons she or he needs to learn. We are all different, yet the same that we are all different, so let’s practice being judge-free, if only for 1 minute this year. To judge or not to judge, that is the question.

Thank you for sharing in this neutral energy exchange with me.
